TUMF 2008 Volunteers
Putting Canada's largest urban music festival together requires a hardworking and enthusiastic crew. If you would like to get involved with the festival and have a lot of fun, you've come to the right place.
We are recruiting for the Irie Music Festival as well. The Irie Music Festival will take place from August 4th to 7th. If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more about the festival, check out our website @ www.iriemusicfestival.com, or e-mail us for an application.
We need volunteers for TUMF 2008 in the following areas:
CONFERENCE VOLUNTEERS
Conference volunteers must be available during all hours of the conference. There are only a limited number of positions in this area, so if this is where you want to be, then get your application in quick!
Registration:
In this position you will be the first point of contact for all Conference delegates and attendees, process payments, give out conference panel schedule and answer any questions.
To do this you must be friendly, outgoing, well organized and able to work well with people and under pressure. Previous cash experience is desired.
Conference Rooms:
Before and during the Conference you will make sure that everything is under control. You will direct people to where they want to go, make sure everyone is seated and ready prior to each conference start time.
To do this you should have some leadership and time management skills. Handling any situation that arises with professionalism is important.
Host:
Locate and give advance notice to individuals participating on the conference panels or discussions. Direct incoming attendees and assist people with any questions.
To do this you must be polite, professional and aware of the time schedule at all times. Of course you have to be friendly and outgoing as well.
General Store:
Set-up & Operate the general store during the conference. Also assist other volunteer teams as needed.
To do this you should be able to take direction, be friendly and outgoing. Previous cash experience is desired.
Floating Team:
You will help out wherever help is needed. This position would be ideal for someone who likes to move around a lot.
To do this you should be capable, flexible and adaptable to multiple situations.
FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS
Stage Manager:
Management of the backstage area-including dressing rooms, hospitality area, on and around the stage. Make sure everything is smooth like silk.
To do this you must be available all day, as rotating shifts will be assigned. This job requires a lot of tact and professionalism especially when dealing with artists and union members. You should be familiar with live music setting and have great time management and organizational skills.
Assistant Stage Manager:
Assist the Stage Managers with festival duties. Must be ready to accept a leadership role if called upon.
To do this you must be available all day, as rotating shifts will be assigned. You should be able to communicate effectively in a professional and friendly manner. Familiarity with a live music setting is desired.
Stage Hand:
Assist with artist equipment and provide general backstage support. Take direction from Stage manager as needed.
To do this you should be adaptable to multiple situations in a hectic environment. You should be available all day, as rotating shifts will be assigned. Previous stage experience would be beneficial.
Pre-Production/Production:
You will set up the backstage area banners, Artists dressing rooms and hospitality. During the course of the day you¹ll make sure these areas are clean and properly stocked.
To do this you must be able to be professional around Artists, Celebrities and Record Company executives. You must be responsible, courteous and have an excellent attitude.
Security:
You will guard the gate leading to the backstage area. All artists and other relevant people to the backstage area have special identification and only those people are permitted backstage.
To do this you must be above all professional and responsible. You are not expected to get physical in the event of a dispute. You must be able to handle all situations in a calm and friendly manner.
Marshall:
You will be a master of the schedule and CNE area. You are there to help when people have questions and able to direct them to the right spot.
You should be a friendly, outgoing and adaptable person. You will be in constant contact with the general public, so be ready.
Merchandising:
We will be setting up a merchandising booth this year so local artists have somewhere to sell their music and other merchandise. In this position you will process all payments and log each artists sales.
To do this you must have previous cash experience. You are responsible, professional, friendly and able to handle multiple transactions.
Marketplace Assistant:
Over the course of the day we have marketplace vendors offering a number of items ranging from t-shirts to jewelry. You will be the central contact person for those vendors and assist them with any questions they have.
You should be approachable, courteous and professional.
Float:
You will help out wherever help is needed. This position would be ideal for someone who likes to move around a lot.
To do this you should be capable, flexible and adaptable to multiple situations.

Volunteers are required to attend mandatory orientation sessions prior to the festival.
