Davu
Actor, poet, educator, emcee, journalist Davu Ayomi (nee James Flint) spits flames from speeding freight trains in his mission to intersect politics, mythology, and contemporary urban life. As Pittsburgh’s 2000 Grand Slam Champion and the 2001 Rust Belt Regionals Individual Champion, Davu has performed his original brand of poetry and hip-hop throughout the U.S. and abroad, appearing in Toronto, London, and Capetown, South Africa. He’s interviewed rapper KRS One, and has been anthologized in Bum Rush the Page: A Def Poetry Jam (Random House). Davu has also published two chapbooks: Word Life and There Is No War, and has just received a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grant to record his hip-hop/spoken word work Electric Avenue.
