CITIZEN KANE
BIt has been said that it takes 10 to 15 years to become an overnight sensation. Citizen Kane has been steadily building a strong foundation for the past 10 years. And their reputation as one of the leading rap groups in Canada is well-earned.
A string of extremely well-received singles and an EP has led to the release of their debut album, Deliverance on Tree House Records in ’99. It copped a nomination for Best Rap Recording at the 2000 Juno Awards.
Citizen Kane, led by Spade and Blye, also broke new ground in the world of filmmaking as a rap group. The National Film Board of Canada produced a rapumentary featuring Citizen Kane titled Rasin’ Kane, which was became an award-winning film in both Canada and the United States. It was awarded best Canadian documentary at the Reel World Film Festival and won the best HBO documentary Award in New York’s Urban World Film Festival.
With a new album in the works, writing and composing for film, international recognition, and a hot reputation for their live shows, Citizen Kane is clearly one watch.
