FESTIVAL HISTORY
2002
 Canada's largest urban music festival, gaining force each year, brought out more than 10,000 urbanites in 2002. Virgin recording artists Slum Village were the headliners, and Canadian talents Brass Munk, Graph Nobel, Carl Henry and 7 Life were also featured performers.
The sixth annual TUMF also marked the birth of the urban music conference as part of the festival. The conference explored topics such as the state of urban music in Canada and how to present your music to labels and was such a success that producers plan to make it a permanent fixture at the annual festival.
Continuing in the TUMF tradition, dancers, poets, urban fashion shows, an urban marketplace and culturally appropriate food vendors rounded out the event and helped make it a success.
2001
 The signature end-of-summer event and Canada's largest outdoor urban music celebration returned to the Toronto Star CNE Bandshell (presented by Toronto.com) for its fifth year. The all day event featured some of the freshest and hottest international and Canadian urban artists and attracted 8,000 fans inspite of the rain.
 Headlining the 10 hour TUMF 2001 was hot new soul sensation, Bilal. Other featured artists included rap's rising star, Royce Da 5'9", Dawn Silva, former lead singer of Brides of Funkenstein and Parliament Funkadelic, and Juno award winning gospel diva, Londa Larmond. The After Party took place at Joker Nightclub, 318 Richmond St. W. with DJ and Producer DJ Hi-TEK on the one's and the two's all night long.
TUMF 2001 also showcased dancers, poets, urban fashion shows, an urban marketplace as well as culturally appropriate food vendors.
2000
Year  2000 Toronto Urban Music Festival was the biggest and best yet! An estimated 10,000 urban music fans gathered under clear sunny August skies and great vibes at the Canadian National Exhibition Bandshell for this signature summer event.
 The all-day music fest featured soul diva and Grammy nominee Jill Scott, conscious rap star, Mos Def, Canadian urban artists, dance troupes, an urban fashion show, an urban marketplace and celebrity guests including international superstar model Tyra Banks. The festival's highlight featured an encore performance by Jill Scott and Mos Def freestyling live on stage before a delirious crowd.
1999 and earlier
Past performers at the festival include emerging stars such as Glenn Lewis, Slum Village, Tasha Holiday, Divine Earth Essence, Ninja Tune, Michie Mee and Boot Camp Clik among more than 75 Canadian urban artists.
